OML Closing Sediment Traps with lids reduce the risk of contamination or spilling on recovery encountered when using most small sediment traps. The OML trap can be triggered to close while still in the water, removing the risk of sample loss or contamination while the trap is being recovered through the surface layer. Triggering can be achieved by sliding a messenger down the line prior to recovery or by using acoustic or timed releases in situ. Once closed, the sample is safe from mixing with surface films or being tipped over.
This small pair of traps is ideal for use from small vessels or in oceanic environments where large sequentially sampling conical traps are not practical. The paired trap can be used to increase the range of analysis for deployments with little sedimentation. The trap is also available without the closing mechanism and lids for regular use in sheltered waters.
